Who can usually apply

  • Engineer-trainee posts: B.E. or B.Tech in the relevant branch, often with a valid GATE score
  • Non-executive and technician posts: ITI, diploma or degree as per the notice

How selection usually works

  1. Many PSUs shortlist on GATE score; others hold their own computer-based test
  2. Group discussion and/or interview
  3. Document verification and medical examination

Subjects to cover

  • Your engineering branch (core)
  • General Aptitude: reasoning, maths, English
  • General Awareness and Current Affairs

How to prepare

  1. Find which PSUs you are targeting and whether each uses GATE or its own test
  2. Prepare the GATE syllabus of your branch: it doubles as technical preparation for PSU tests
  3. Practise the aptitude sections for the PSUs' own tests
  4. Prepare for group discussion and interview in the last months
  5. Watch the notifications of ONGC, BHEL, IOCL, GAIL, ISRO, DRDO and other PSUs

Exam patterns, age limits and dates change from year to year. Treat this page as a starting point and always read the official notification before you apply.
