Who can usually apply

  • Junior Engineer (JE): a diploma or degree in civil, mechanical, electrical or electronics, as the notice says
  • Assistant Engineer: usually B.E. or B.Tech
  • Technician and apprentice posts: ITI in the trade, or a diploma
  • Many apprentice posts are filled on merit of marks; check the notice

How selection usually works

  1. Written test: general awareness and reasoning plus a technical paper in your branch
  2. Skill or trade test for technician posts
  3. Document verification; an interview for some posts

Subjects to cover

  • Your engineering branch (core subjects)
  • General Awareness
  • Reasoning and Maths
  • Basic Computer Knowledge

How to prepare

  1. Choose the exam and read the notice: for JE the technical paper often carries the most marks
  2. Revise your branch at diploma or degree level and solve numerical problems
  3. Practise reasoning and general awareness
  4. Solve previous papers of the same recruiter (SSC JE, RRB JE, state boards, PSUs)
  5. For ITI and apprentice posts keep your trade certificates and marksheets ready

Exam patterns, age limits and dates change from year to year. Treat this page as a starting point and always read the official notification before you apply.
